Measurement & Inspection

The most important and critical process for tooling is INSPECTION. An inspection is, most generally, an organized examination or formal evaluation exercise. By performing inspections, we are able to identify problems early with the goal of eliminating the causes. Utilized correctly, inspections save money by eliminating process problems and ensuring that the end product meets customers' requirements and expectations. A mechanical inspection is usually undertaken to ensure the safety, reliability and durability of tools. Quality related inspection is the must in Quality control.

At M.K. & SONS we give full intention in this process. Quality control department at M.K. & SONS involves the measurements, tests, and gauges applied to certain characteristics in regard to an object or activity. Our tooling goes through the hands of mechanical engineers who are conscientious, adaptable and most importantly fully trained in the techniques of handling and inspecting the tooling. Inspection as well as thoroughly checking the dimension of Punches and dies at each and every process helps us producing quality tooling.

Going through inspections it evaluates our tooling selected during the manufacturing process. This confirms the quality of punches and dies, allows any necessary changes to be addressed early on, reducing rework time and costs.

MEASURING PUNCHES

Checking tooling dimensions is recommended as part of routine maintenance procedures. The following equipments are come to use to check the dimensions of punches & dies.

  • Comparator
  • Pointed brass anvil
  • Ball anvil
  • Micrometer
  • Length gauge
  • Radius gauges
  • Punch holders (B & D type tooling)
  • Vertical held V-block
  • Go – No Go gauges

SETTING UP THE COMPARATOR

  • The comparator is used to measure a punch’s
  • overall length
  • working length
  • and tip-to-barrel concentricity

Punches and dies, after prolonged usage, are likely to give rise to any of the following problems in tabletting :

  • Excessive weight variation.
  • Tablet hardness variation
  • Excessive powder seepage form the lower punches / collar formation.
  • Bending of the small size punch tips caused by excessive compression pressure.

These problems, if not taken care of in due time, may cause costly breakdown, No wonder, why Die punch Inspection Kit becomes indispensable in such situations.

To correlate these specific problems with the inconsistencies in the tooling, the following parameters need to gauged with the help of this Kit :

  • Working height uniformity of all punches.
  • Punch tip to die before clearance.
  • Punch tip to die bore concentricity.

Apart from the preventive maintenance, first time comprehensive inspection program can be undertaken for the following parameters with the help of our kit :

  • Cavity depth of the punches.
  • Die outside diameter uniformity.
  • Die height uniformity.
  • Die hole GO / NO GO checking
  • Die ID to OD concentricity.
